54 Idli Steamer is made of heavy duty Aluminum and comes with 6 Aluminum Idli Trays. Each tray can make 9 pieces of Idlies. 108 Idli Steamer comes 12 Aluminum Idli Trays with 9 idlies from each plate.
Please note the idli molds come with holes for airflow during the steaming process. .Please use a cloth on the trays to cover the idli molds and then pour the idli batter.
How to use this idli maker?
Set the idli steamer on the stove.Pour water in the aluminum box and heat up the steamer on the stove.Just line a wet cloth (just wet NOT dripping with water) on top of the idli plates and ladle out the idli batter on the plates. Close the sliding door.Reduce the flame from medium to low flame .It takes approxtimately15 minutes to cook 108 idlis depending on the burner setting.The sliding door lifts up for easy removal. The resultant idlies will be called as gourmet idlies.
Place the stack carefully into the Idli maker when the water is boiling and make sure that the lowest plate is not submerged under water. Please note if there is too much water in the idli maker,the idlies will not cook properly.The main reason for idlies not cooked in the middle or cook flat is that the batter was too runny.
Do not try removing idlies from the idli plates as soon as it comes out from the steamer. Wait for 2-3 minutes.
If you are in a hurry. Pour little water on the back of the idli plate. It will help in easy release of idlies.
Also use a sharp spoon to spoon out the idlies from the idli mould.
Warning: Please take extreme precaution and stand sideways when opening the door of this steamer due to the building of hot steam when cooking idli.
Note: This is a stove top steamer and does not use electricity.
